Due 11/2: Business Connections

This assignment builds upon our discussion of cell biology topics through an examination of how businesses puts cells to work to produce goods or services. Work on this assignment by finding a business in the area that uses a particular cell and respond the prompts below. Microbes have all kinds of applications in the business world, so you might find something that surprises you. 

  1. What is the name of the business? Provide a short description of what they do.
  2. What is the scientific names of the cell? Does it have a common name?
  3. How is it being used?
  4. What kind of cell is it? Prokaryote or eukaryote? Animal or plant?
  5. What special characteristics does this cell have that make it useful to this business?
  6. What are its origins? Where does it come from and what does it do in its native environment?
  7. Find at least one microscope image of this cell or a research paper about it.
